A solution from a fisherman in Rize: The bees' share
In Rize, a shopkeeper found a solution to bees landing on the fish at his stall by giving them their 'share.' To prevent the bees from damaging the fish, he decided to leave a certain amount of fish aside for them. This method both met the bees' nutritional needs and helped the shopkeeper protect his stock.
Faik Yılmaz, a shopkeeper in the Pazar district of Rize, began searching for a solution after seeing his fish stall being invaded by bees. Yılmaz separated the fish that particularly attracted the bees and hung them on a rack, considering these fish as the bees' share. As a result, the bees turned their attention to the fish Yılmaz had set aside rather than those on the stall. Thanks to this method, he both ensured the bees were fed and helped protect the fish on his stall.
'IF WE DON'T HANG THEM, THEY WILL ATTACK THE STALL'
Fisherman Faik Yılmaz explained that they came up with this solution to keep the bees from landing on the stall, stating the following:
“The bees are attacking the stall. Since we know they love horse mackerel and anchovies, we separate them and hang them above the stall like this. If we didn't hang them, they would attack the fish on the stall. By gathering the bees here, we protect the stall from them. They eat so much that even the fish skeleton is exposed.”
