Soma mine disaster: Lawsuit filed against 28 public officials

The Soma Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated in an announcement that 301 miners lost their lives in the disaster that occurred on May 13, 2014.

The statement noted that, following the investigation conducted by the Soma Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was prepared against 28 public officials and the case was opened at the Soma 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

CASE HISTORY

The lawsuit regarding the disaster was originally filed on April 13, 2015. While 14 defendants, including the chairman of the board, general manager, operations manager, and assistant operations manager of Soma Coal Enterprises, were sentenced to prison, the other 37 defendants were acquitted.

On February 9, 2021, it was decided that the detained defendants would be tried without arrest.
