Somali President defends his son
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has spoken for the first time about the incident in Istanbul caused by his son, which resulted in the death of motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s son, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, caused the death of motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer on November 30 after hitting him from behind with his car at the Aksaray exit of the Eurasia Tunnel.
The Somali President described the incident caused by his son, which resulted in the death of Yunus Emre Göçer, as an 'accident'.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud argued that his son "did not flee Turkey" and stated that he had told his son to return to Turkey and surrender to the court.
“THERE WAS NO ARREST WARRANT”
Speaking to the news agency AP, the Somali President stated that his 40-year-old son, who is a doctor, stayed in Istanbul for a few days after the accident, saying, "There was no arrest warrant. It was an accident. He did not flee, and he had already hired a lawyer for this purpose. He had business and went abroad".
Mohamud said, "He still has ties to the country, and I am talking to him to return and surrender to the court".
Offering his condolences to the family of the late Göçer, the Somali President said, "We share the pain of their loss with them".

Motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer passed away in the hospital on December 6, six days after being struck by a vehicle driven by the Somali President's son, Mohammed Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in Istanbul. Following Göçer's death, an international travel ban was issued for Mohamud, but it was revealed that he had already fled Turkey.
