POLICE COULD NOT TAKE ACTION

According to a report by Evren Demirdaş from Sözcü newspaper, Mustafa Seccad Yıldırım, the son of AKP Elazığ Provincial Chairman Şerafettin Yıldırım, fired shots into the air for an unknown reason in the Ataşehir neighborhood of the city center last night. Police were dispatched to the neighborhood following the incident. However, it was learned that the police who arrived at the scene were not allowed to take any action.

CLAIM OF 'ACTION WAS TAKEN' FROM AKP CHAIRMAN

Following our report, AKP Elazığ Provincial Chairman Şerafettin Yıldırım stated in a statement, “The claim that the police did not take action is not true. After the incident, my son was taken into custody, brought before the prosecutor's office, and released pending trial.”

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Following the public attention surrounding the armed incident involving Mustafa Seccad Yıldırım, the son of AKP Elazığ Provincial Chairman Şerafettin Yıldırım, a written statement was issued by the Elazığ Governor's Office.

The written statement from the Governor's Office said, “Upon a report that shots were fired into the air from a vehicle at the Tofaş junction in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of our city on 20.07.2024 at approximately 22:15, our security forces immediately launched an investigation. On the same day, the vehicle and the suspect in question were apprehended along with the firearm used in the incident and were taken into custody under the instructions of the public prosecutor. The suspect, identified as M.S.Y., was released on 21.07.2024 by the judicial authorities to whom he was referred for intentionally endangering general security and violating Law No. 6136, subject to judicial control conditions.”
