In the Foça district of İzmir, the son of former member of parliament and former Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Ahmet Fehmi Işıklar has been taken into custody on charges of shooting and killing his mother.

According to the information received, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area after a gunshot was heard from a house in the Hacıveli neighborhood.

Upon inspection, it was determined that Gülay Işıklar (55), the wife of 18th and 19th term member of parliament Ahmet Fehmi Işıklar, had lost her life.

The couple's son, C. Işıklar (28), was taken into custody by gendarmerie teams.

It was learned that the suspect stated in his initial testimony that he shot his mother accidentally.

HE SERVED IN 3 PARTIES

Fehmi Işıklar, who was elected as a Bursa deputy from the Social Democratic Populist Party (SHP) in the 1987 elections, resigned from the party in 1990 and served as the chairman of the People's Labor Party (HEP). Elected as a Diyarbakır deputy from the SHP in the 1991 elections and serving as Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during this period, Işıklar also held positions as deputy chairman in both the SHP and the CHP.
