Split in the 'opening' commission following the Imralı decision! 'Is there a plan to legitimize Öcalan and the PKK?'
Following the decision by the 'opening' commission in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to visit Imralı, Democrat Party (DP) İzmir MP Haydar Altıntaş has withdrawn from the commission.
Following MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's challenge, "If necessary, I will go to Imralı myself," the 'opening' commission convened and held a vote on whether to visit terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan. The commission approved the visit to Imralı with 32 votes.
While the AKP, MHP, DEM Party, TİP, and EMEP voted in favor, the DSP, HÜDAPAR, and the Democrat Party voted against it. The New Way Group (Yeni Yol Grubu) abstained. The CHP and YRP did not participate in the vote.
Following the decision to go to Imralı, the first news of a withdrawal from the commission has arrived. Democrat Party (DP) İzmir MP Haydar Altıntaş, who voted against the motion in the commission, will notify the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey that he is withdrawing from the commission.

"DEEP PAIN WAS EXPERIENCED ON THE ISLAND OF IMRALI"
Speaking to Sözcü, DP member Altıntaş stated the following:
"As a result of the evaluation we made with our Chairman Gültekin Uysal, we decided to withdraw from the commission. Deep pain was experienced on the island of Imralı in the past, and it remains fresh in our memories.
I hope that the visit to be made to the island now will not lead to new events that will wound the conscience of the nation. We say that there is no negotiating with a terrorist. What are you going to talk about now? He is already saying everything he wants to say. Will a negotiation table be set up in Imralı? Is there a plan to legitimize Öcalan and the PKK?"
Stating that unimaginable demands have also emerged during the process, Altıntaş said, "These demands are being listed, and the nation's right to sovereignty is being debated. Discussions such as education in the mother tongue and transforming the unitary state into a federated state through a decentralized administrative style are being initiated."
