Statement from Bahçeli on Haniyeh assassination

It was announced that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an attack at his residence in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Following this development, MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli stated that this assassination would drag the Middle East into even greater chaos.

The statement by Nationalist Movement Party Chairman Bahçeli regarding Ismail Haniyeh is as follows:

"His martyrdom as a result of the heinous assassination he suffered in Tehran will deepen the chaos engulfing the Middle East even further."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh lost his life as a result of a terrorist attack carried out on his residence in Tehran.

It was reported that one of Haniyeh's bodyguards also lost his life in the attack.

Iranian media noted that details regarding the incident would be announced later.

3 SONS AND 4 GRANDCHILDREN HAD BEEN KILLED

On April 10, the Israeli army struck a vehicle carrying many members of the family of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who were on their way to visit residents and relatives in the Al-Shati Refugee Camp in western Gaza City for Eid al-Fitr.

Haniyeh, who lost 3 sons and 4 grandchildren in the attack, had stated that "his children did not leave Gaza and sacrificed their lives on the path to the liberation of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Haniyeh's granddaughter, Melek Haniyeh, who was wounded in the attack carried out by the Israeli army during Eid al-Fitr, also lost her life in the hospital where she was receiving treatment.

According to the Israeli press, "the assassination of Haniyeh's sons was carried out with the cooperation of the Israeli army and intelligence."

Haniyeh was elected as the Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau by the Hamas Shura Council on May 6, 2017, replacing Khaled Mashal.
