Cemil Tugay's statement on the salary crisis in İzmir: 'It has led to a delay of three business days'

Claims that one-third of municipal workers' salaries would be deposited had led DİSK and Türk-İş to decide on a work stoppage action.

In his latest statement on his social media account, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay announced that salary payments would be made in full on January 7, with delays occurring in only 3 companies.

Tugay used the following expressions in his statement:

The deduction of our share from the Iller Bank by the Ministry of Finance, which lacks a legal basis, has changed our payment schedule in an unforeseen manner.

This situation has led to the salary payments that were supposed to be made on January 7 in 3 of our 32 subsidiaries being delayed by three business days. Instructions have been given to the banks for the payments of our colleagues' accumulated bonuses, family allowances, and other rights, as well as their December wages, to be made on January 7 in our 29 companies.

The remaining January 7 wages for our employees in the other 3 companies will be paid within the following three business days. We hope that the central government will abandon this deduction, which lacks a legal basis; on the other hand, we would like to inform our public that we will keep our budget and payment schedule ready, regardless of this behavior by the central administration.

We will overcome this process in solidarity with the people of İzmir; we will neither disrupt services nor refrain from defending the rights of our people.
