Statement from CHP Chairman Özel on the 'terror-free Turkey' process: We are grateful

In a post on his social media account, CHP Chairman Özel stated, "The Republican People's Party rejects all forms of terrorism and violence with historical consistency.

Our party stands for peace. It is our common will that terrorism, which has cost our country very dearly, should end forever. We welcome the terrorist organization's symbolic step of laying down arms today. We thank all politicians and all authorities, especially the late Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who put in effort and contributed to bringing the process to this point. We hope that this step will be the beginning of a period in which weapons will fall silent completely. 

This process must be managed with quick and decisive steps, without excluding any party or any segment of society, without hiding anything from the nation, and by observing social consensus under the roof of the Parliament," he said.

Emphasizing that Turkey needs to be a terror-free and democratic society, Özel stated, "The establishment of a full environment of peace in Turkey is only possible through justice and democracy. An environment where trustees are appointed in place of elected mayors, investigations are ongoing that criminalize the entry of Kurds into municipal councils, elected politicians are kept in prison through unlawful methods, and democratic competition is crippled is the arch-enemy of social peace and the greatest obstacle to the effort to fortify our internal front. Our country's need is a terror-free and democratic Turkey. Peace is necessary for prosperity, unity is necessary for peace, and democracy and justice are necessary for unity. We will continue to contribute to and fight for peace for our common future with determination," he expressed.
