Statement from CHP following the İmamoğlu summit

CHP officials gathered at the municipality-owned Beyaz Köşk in Emirgan to conduct a situation assessment regarding the appeal process in the case that resulted in a prison sentence and political ban for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The meeting, which was also attended by İmamoğlu for a period, included CHP Deputy Chairman for Legal and Election Affairs Gül Çiftci, Deputy Chairman for Media and Public Relations Burhanettin Bulut, Deputy Chairman for Organization Ensar Aytekin, Deputy Chairman for Local Governments Gökan Zeybek, Deputy Chairman Özgür Karabat, and CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik.

Gül Çiftci provided information to journalists following the meeting. Çiftci stated the following:

"Our Chairman made the necessary statements at the airport today regarding the agenda of this meeting. We see no difference in going over those statements again. This was not our first meeting. We have held these meetings before. However, we had held them at the level of our headquarters. Since we were going to see off our Chairman today, we were all in Istanbul.

Our meeting in question was held in Istanbul. Regarding the content of the meeting, we evaluated the legal process from the very beginning to the present day. We evaluated the process moving forward. We assessed what the cost to Turkey would be and what awaits us in the event of a possible anti-democratic, unlawful decision.

We have concluded our meeting. We will continue our meetings from here on out. We will follow this process closely day by day. We, like you, will be following the judicial process."
