Statement from the Diyarbakır Governor's Office regarding 'assault' allegations

The Diyarbakır Governor's Office has denied allegations that a citizen who reacted to Governor Ali İhsan Su during a condolence visit for those who lost their lives in the fires in the Çınar district was "assaulted."

The allegation appearing on some social media accounts and in press outlets that "a young person who told the governor 'you are lying' in the fire area was assaulted" absolutely does not reflect the truth.

The statement from the Governor's Office said, "The allegation appearing on some social media accounts and in press outlets that 'a young person who told the governor 'you are lying' in the fire area was assaulted' absolutely does not reflect the truth. Our Governor, Ali İhsan Su, attended the condolences for our citizens who lost their lives in the land fire that occurred between the Çınar district of our province and the Mazıdağı district of Mardin in the Köksalan and Yazçiceği neighborhoods on June 22. During the condolence program, Governor Su shared in the families' grief and stated that efforts are ongoing to provide the necessary support and aid. During the visit, a citizen present at the condolence site made reactive remarks, and the relatives of the deceased expressed that this reaction was an insult to them, stating that such remarks were inappropriate at a condolence site. No assault incident occurred between our Governor's security detail and S.Ç."

The statement, which noted that the state continues to stand by the citizens who were victims of the fire with all its institutions, included the following: "We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in the fire and a speedy recovery to the injured. Please do not give credence to baseless allegations aimed at manipulating public opinion."

On the other hand, it was learned that S.Ç., who was alleged to have been assaulted, has filed a criminal complaint against those who reported the news.
