Statement from EMEP MP Bayhan after visiting Deniz Göktaş: He has started taking notes

Making a statement after the visit, Bayhan said that Göktaş's morale and health are good.

Bayhan stated, "Deniz knows why he is here, why he is being held here, and why he was arrested. He is aware of everything. He has followed and observed what has happened day by day and has drawn conclusions."

Expressing that Göktaş is one of the new young generation representatives of political satire in Turkey, Bayhan reported that the comedian has already started taking notes to prepare new shows after his release from prison. Bayhan added, "Deniz is in high spirits and his health is good. He sends his greetings and love to everyone who knows him, doesn't know him, or is concerned about him."

"END THIS PROHIBITIONIST MENTALITY"

Calling on the higher court that will review the detention decision for Deniz Göktaş, Bayhan said that every day Göktaş spends in prison will mean a new mark against the debates on law and justice in Turkey. Bayhan said, "Even one day, even one extra day that Deniz spends in this prison, will not only add a new mark to the report card of the regime of lawlessness and injustice in Turkey; it will also represent a significant obstacle to this country's accumulation of political satire."

Describing Göktaş's detention as "censorship of political satire," Bayhan stated that the prohibitionist mentality against freedom of thought and expression must be abandoned, and noted the following:

"Put an end to this lawlessness, this injustice, and this attitude of censorship toward political satire; put an end to this prohibitionist mentality clearly displayed against freedom of thought and expression. Release Deniz. Deniz's place is on the stage. Deniz's place is in the halls, squares, and venues where he will present new shows to us, to the workers and laborers of this country, in terms of political satire in Turkey. Therefore, release İmran Deniz."
