Statement from İlber Ortaylı following the Minguzzi verdict: The case is not over yet

İlber Ortaylı, who has been closely following the court process and stood out for the support he provided to Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's family during this time, has now commented on the court's verdict.

Ortaylı used the following expressions in the statement he made from his account:

"The state of the devastated family is clear. Yet they maintained their composure. Ultimately, the mother could not bear it; it is not easy to remain cool-headed in the midst of so much pain.

We are facing a group that acts with both a guilty and arrogant attitude. It is unclear what or whom they rely on. But one thing caught my attention; there is still a good and conscientious mass in Turkey that raises its voice and demands justice.

In recent weeks, I said the following: I hope that even if the case cannot soothe the pain of the mother and father, it will at least conclude with a fair decision that speaks to the public conscience. Because this case is a test not only for a family but also for the society's sense of justice.

Unfortunately, this did not happen. Ersan Barkın, the lawyer for the Minguzzi family, says: 'Although we presented to the court how the 4 defendants surrounded Minguzzi, 2 defendants were released due to lack of evidence.' The case is not over yet. We will continue to follow it."
