Statement from Mamak Mayor regarding the brutality at the animal shelter
As citizens gathered in front of the Mamak Municipality animal shelter in the Kutludüğün neighborhood of Ankara following allegations that animals were being slaughtered, the Ankara Governor's Office launched an investigation into the matter and those responsible. Mamak Mayor Veli Gündüz Şahin stated, "As an animal lover, I am deeply saddened by these images and have immediately launched an investigation. I want you to know that any veterinarians or shelter staff found to have been negligent or acted with malicious intent during this process will be dismissed from their duties."
It has been alleged that animals were slaughtered at the Mamak Municipality animal shelter. Following these claims, a group of 30 people gathered in front of the shelter to express their reactions to the allegations.
Lawyers for the Mamak Municipality arrived at the scene and entered the shelter with a group from the crowd to conduct an inspection.
It was learned that security forces were also stationed around the shelter as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues.
The Ankara Governor's Office also issued a statement regarding the matter: "Following reports on social media regarding the animal shelter under the Mamak Municipality, our Provincial Gendarmerie Command units have launched the necessary investigation into the subject and those responsible, which is being carried out meticulously."
STATEMENT FROM MAMAK MUNICIPALITY
CHP Mamak Mayor Veli Gündüz Şahin also stated in a written statement that he felt great sadness and concern regarding the situation at the Kutludüğün Stray Animal Rehabilitation and Temporary Care Center.
Şahin used the expression, "As an animal lover, I am deeply saddened by these images and have immediately launched an investigation. I want you to know that any veterinarians or shelter staff found to have been negligent or acted with malicious intent during this process will be dismissed from their duties."
While gendarmerie teams took security measures in the area, animal rights activists reacting to the events at the shelter demanded that the incident be investigated meticulously and that those responsible be punished.

Çetin Erdan, who was waiting in front of the shelter, drew attention to the gravity of the situation, saying, "We learned that the animals inside were tearing each other apart and that they were left hungry. Animal living spaces should not be like this; we do not accept this."
Haydar Özkan, Vice President of the Animal Life Rights Confederation (HayKonfed), claimed to have seen images of many animals having died in the shelter, stating, "The situation inside is disastrous. We saw many starving animals."
