Statement from Minister Koca regarding the dialysis incident in Burdur
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca made a statement regarding the patients who underwent dialysis at Burdur State Hospital on May 25 and the subsequent process.
Highlights from Minister Fahrettin Koca's statement are as follows:
On May 25, thirty-three of our patients, two of whom were already in intensive care, underwent dialysis treatment at Burdur State Hospital.
After some patients who were transported home following their dialysis sessions began experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and confusion, all patients who had received dialysis treatment were placed under observation at our hospital.
Following emergency assessments, fourteen of our patients, including our two intensive care patients, were stabilized while intubated. Three of our patients were transferred to Isparta, twenty-three to Antalya, six to Afyon, and one to Denizli for dialysis and intensive care needs.
The health status of all our transferred patients has been closely monitored by me.
During this process, unfortunately, we lost three elderly patients, one of whom was a pre-existing intensive care patient, due to the impact of their accompanying chronic conditions.
As of today, there are no patients remaining in an intubated state. The treatment of fourteen of our patients continues. Sixteen of our patients have been discharged.
The condition of our patients who are still undergoing treatment is improving. I wish them a speedy recovery. I will continue to closely monitor every aspect of this unfortunate incident that occurred at Burdur State Hospital. Judicial and administrative investigation processes regarding the incident are ongoing.
