Statement from Ministry of National Defense sources on lieutenants' sword oath: 'There are two alternatives'
The process continues for the lieutenants facing potential dismissal from the army due to the oath they took at the Military Academy graduation ceremony and their subsequent chant of 'We are Mustafa Kemal's soldiers.' A recent statement from Ministry of National Defense sources indicated that there are two alternatives for the lieutenants.
Striking behind-the-scenes information has leaked from Ministry of National Defense (MSB) sources regarding the lieutenants' sword oath that has been occupying the agenda.
Sinan Burhan, Editor-in-Chief of the Millet News Agency, shared information on the latest developments in the "lieutenants' sword oath" investigation with Erdoğan Aktaş on the Eşit Ağırlık program on tv100.
The statements regarding the issue that Burhan obtained from MSB sources are as follows:
"The High Disciplinary Process began today; the testimonies of eight people, including 5 lieutenants and three ranked officers, were taken, and 200 people were consulted.
The High Disciplinary Board consists of nine people and is chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces.
"A DECISION MAY BE REACHED WITHIN 1 MONTH"
A decision may be reached within 1 month. There are two alternatives; either a dismissal decision will be issued, or the file will be returned with the conclusion that there is no disciplinary offense. If a dismissal decision is issued, the path to the administrative court is open.
The difference between a normal court and a military trial is this: You go to a normal court, and if you are found guilty, you serve your sentence. However, here a disciplinary offense has been committed, the offense is established; a decision will be made accordingly.
These debates have worn down the TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) and caused very serious damage. Discussing it over the issue of Atatürk, who is a value of this country, has been a separate mistake."
