Statement from the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living on HÜDA-PAR: It is an attempt to destroy our Republic!

The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) has issued a statement regarding the demand by HÜDA-PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu to 'repeal Article 4 of the Constitution.'

Speaking on a television program he recently attended, HÜDA-PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu stated, “I said it one by one as if explaining it to a fool, yet they insist on not understanding. The fact that there are no unchangeable articles in the Constitution does not mean let us change all those articles you call unchangeable. We are against the 4th article of the Constitution, okay? Do you understand? Let there be no 4th article. The 4th article is placing a mortgage on the will of future generations. I am saying it again, I am underlining it,” which caused intense reactions in the public sphere.

'PROPOSING THIS AMENDMENT SERVES SEPARATISM'

Following the statements made by Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, reactions grew like an avalanche. The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living issued a statement on the matter. Noting that the amendment would serve separatism, the ÇYDD invited the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor to take action and made the following statements:

'AMENDING THE FIRST 4 ARTICLES OF THE CONSTITUTION IS AN ATTEMPT TO DESTROY OUR 101-YEAR-OLD REPUBLIC!'

"Our Constitution's fourth article stipulates that the first three articles, which regulate the state's fundamental characteristics, official language, flag, national anthem, and capital, cannot be changed and that their amendment cannot even be proposed.

The fourth article of the Constitution is the protective armor and guarantee of the state's fundamental characteristics, official language, flag, and unitary structure. Targeting this guarantee is targeting the founding principles and fundamental characteristics of the state. Proposing this amendment serves reactionism and separatism, and political parties that propose this amendment should have no place in democratic political life.

We invite the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor to do what is necessary.
