Statement from the DMM: Married couples without children are also considered a 'family'
In a statement made on social media by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation, it was stated that claims suggesting the Ministry of Family and Social Services does not consider "married couples without children as a family" within the scope of its "Year of the Family" projects do not reflect the truth.
The statement made from the DMM's social media account noted that it had been determined that manipulative news reports were being produced regarding the projects implemented by the Ministry of Family and Social Services within the scope of the "Year of the Family," claiming that "married couples without children are not considered a family."
The statement recalled that the year 2025 was declared the "Year of the Family" by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 13, and emphasized that in this context, the Ministry of Family and Social Services will organize activities throughout the year that will provide economic benefits, increase awareness, and contribute to the sociocultural development of families, aimed at protecting and strengthening the family.
The statement, which mentioned that various conditions have been set to benefit from discounts within the scope of the implemented activities, provided the following information:
"Within the framework of these established conditions, there is no requirement for a child to be present in the family. For example, in intercity bus travel, if at least 2 and at most 4 passengers who share the same surname or prove that they are a family with information and documentation wish to travel on the same vehicle and transport line, a discount of up to 40 percent is applied to the tickets issued for these passengers.
As another example, for train travel, a 50 percent discount is applied to train tickets purchased by newlywed couples in 2025 with the 'Newlywed Tariff'.
Within the scope of the Year of the Family, a 15 percent discount is applied to families for train travel, provided that at least 3 and at most 11 tickets are purchased for family members traveling together, including mothers, fathers, children, as well as grandmothers and grandfathers.
As a result of the protocol signed between the Ministry and Turkish Airlines (THY), a 15 percent discount on the net fare is provided for domestic flights for at least 3 and at most 9 family members with the same surname.
As can be understood from these examples, the claims that the Ministry of Family and Social Services does not consider married couples without children as a 'family' in any way do not reflect the truth."
