Statement from the DMM regarding BRICS membership and India
The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has issued a statement regarding claims that "Turkey's membership in BRICS was blocked by India."
A statement was issued from the DMM's social media account regarding the claim appearing in some media outlets that "Turkey's membership in BRICS was blocked by India."
It was stated that this claim is not true, and that the membership process of other countries was not on the agenda during the Expanded Leaders' Session held as part of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended.
The statement included the following: "The process regarding the expansion of the BRICS community was not discussed at the summit. Therefore, the claim that India blocked Turkey's BRICS membership does not reflect the truth. Do not rely on statements made outside of official sources."
