Statement from the EGM on the union's strike decision: 'Claims that police officers will strike do not reflect the truth'

Following the announcement by the Security Organization Union that it would hold a nationwide strike on Monday, September 28, to draw attention to the problems faced by organization members and recent suicide cases, a statement was issued by the General Directorate of Security (EGM).

The EGM stated that claims appearing on some social media platforms and news sites that "police officers will strike" do not reflect the truth. The institution announced that the members of the union that made the strike decision consist of civilian personnel.

The statement included the following: "The members of the union that decided to strike on September 28, 2026, consist of civilian personnel, and the claims that our police officers will strike do not reflect the truth."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Board of Directors of the Security Organization Union had drawn attention to difficult working conditions, economic and social problems, allegations of mobbing, and inequalities in personnel rights while announcing the decision to take action.

In the union's statement, it was noted that seven members of the security organization had ended their lives in the last five days. Furthermore, it was stated that two members of the auxiliary services class serving in Bursa and Istanbul had attempted suicide, and a retired member of the organization had ended their life in front of the Constitutional Court.

The union argued that the expectation for a 3600 supplementary indicator covering all public officials who have reached the first degree has not been met, the problems of the auxiliary services class have not been solved, and the demand for "equal pay for equal work" has not been fulfilled.

The statement also mentioned that the Police Professional Law has not been implemented for years, stating, "We are going on a strike across Turkey on Monday afternoon, September 28, to draw attention to the loss of life, economic and social problems, mobbing, losses in personnel rights, and problems that have remained unsolved for years."
