Statement from the Ministry: Drivers exceeding the new speed limit will have their licenses suspended for 90 days
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) will begin deliberations on Tuesday regarding the Draft Law on Amendments to the Highway Traffic Law, which includes regulations to increase traffic fines. Drivers who exceed the speed limit within residential areas will have their licenses suspended for up to 90 days.
The General Assembly, which will begin its weekly work on Tuesday, October 7, will address the Draft Law on Amendments to the Highway Traffic Law, which also includes regulations to increase traffic fines.
According to the proposal, drivers who modify their license plates in a way that causes them to be read differently or to be unreadable will be fined 140 thousand liras, and the vehicle will be banned from traffic for 30 days.
It will be mandatory to have and use a tachograph in motor vehicles used for cargo transport with a maximum loaded weight exceeding 3,500 kilograms, as well as in motor vehicles used for passenger transport with more than 17 seats including the driver, and a taximeter in automobiles providing taxi services.

DRIVERS' LICENSES WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR 90 DAYS IF SPEED LIMIT IS EXCEEDED
Drivers who violate the speed limit within residential areas by 46-55 km/h will have their driver's licenses revoked for 30 days each time, those who violate it by 56-65 km/h for 60 days each time, and those who violate it by more than 66 km/h for 90 days each time.
Drivers who do not yield to vehicles with right-of-way will be fined 15 thousand liras.
Drivers who do not make way for ambulances, vehicles carrying injured or emergency patients, fire trucks, and vehicles fighting forest fires, and who do not stop when necessary, will be fined 46 thousand liras and their driver's licenses will be revoked for 30 days.
FINES FOR AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS
If modifications to vehicles cause noise that disturbs those in the vicinity, the driver will be fined 16 thousand liras.
Drivers who cause a traffic accident by running a red light will have their driver's licenses revoked for 60 days. Revoked driver's licenses will be returned at the end of the revocation period, provided that the driver passes a psychotechnical evaluation and it is determined that there is no obstacle to them holding a driver's license.
Drivers who persistently follow another vehicle in traffic for the purpose of aggression or who get out of their vehicle for this purpose will be fined 180 thousand liras, their driver's licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and their vehicles may be banned from traffic for 30 days.
Drivers who use mobile phones or similar communication devices while driving will be fined 5 thousand liras.
Drivers of motor vehicles engaged in racing will be fined 46 thousand liras and their driver's licenses will be revoked for 2 years.
In traffic accidents resulting in death or injury, drivers who leave the scene without permission from the authorities, except in cases of necessity, will be sentenced to imprisonment from 1 to 3 years.
