Statement from the Presidency of Migration Management regarding the number of Syrians

The Presidency of Migration Management issued a statement regarding claims concerning the number of Syrians under temporary protection.

The statement read, "A need has arisen to make a statement regarding the unrealistic claims put forward about the number of Syrians under temporary protection in our country. All work and procedures carried out by our Presidency of Migration Management are conducted in accordance with the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458 and other relevant legislation. The registration procedures for foreigners under temporary protection are also carried out within the scope of Article 21 of the Temporary Protection Regulation.

The aforementioned article stipulates that the temporary protection registrations of children born in Turkey to those benefiting from temporary protection must be completed as soon as possible. In this context, the registration of the newborn child, along with the birth notification form obtained from the hospital and other relevant documents, is processed into the GöçNet database system by the Provincial Directorates of Migration Management in a way that includes all information, and a Temporary Protection Identity Document containing a foreign identity number is issued for the children in question.

As can be understood from the explanation above, the number of 2 million 935 thousand 742 Syrians under temporary protection in our country also includes children born in Turkey to Syrians under temporary protection.

All figures shared with the public, other than the number of foreigners in our country which are shared transparently on our website and updated regularly every week by our Presidency, are unrealistic and have no basis," the statement concluded.
