In a post on his X account, Üstün stated the following:
- "Regarding the news reports about bedbugs appearing in some media outlets, we would like to state that Turkish Airlines meticulously maintains its commitment to the highest standards of safety and comfort.
- Bedbug incidents are a general issue encountered from time to time in public spaces, including aircraft. In this context, we take all feedback we receive seriously and examine it carefully. In such cases, we immediately subject the affected aircraft to all necessary inspections. Furthermore, in our general routine, our aircraft are cleaned regularly and disinfected in detail before every flight.
- We continue to work in close contact with aircraft manufacturers to ensure the implementation of the most effective and safe procedures for pest control. Turkish Airlines always prioritizes the safety and comfort of its passengers and takes every action related to this with care."
It had been alleged in the New York Times, one of the respected newspapers in the US, that bedbugs were seen on THY aircraft. The report included the views of some passengers and noted that THY did not respond to requests for comment.
