Statement from Turkish Airlines regarding Libya

The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has announced that claims suggesting a 'Turkish Airlines (THY) aircraft abandoned its landing in Libya due to fears of retaliation' do not reflect the truth.

In a statement released on the DMM's social media account, it was stated: "The claim appearing in some media outlets and social media accounts that 'a passenger aircraft belonging to THY abandoned its landing in Libya due to fears of retaliation' does not reflect the truth. The TK641 Istanbul-Benghazi flight on December 24, 2025, was diverted to Bodrum Milas Airport because wind conditions at the destination airfield exceeded operational limits. There is no question of the flight in question changing its route for any other reason. Furthermore, flights to Libya in the days following the date in question have continued in their normal flow as planned. It is kindly requested that the public not give credence to such baseless claims containing disinformation aimed at damaging our relations with friendly and brotherly Libya through a tragic accident."
