Statement from Yılmaz Tunç on 'Rojin Kabaiş'

Statement from Yılmaz Tunç on 'Rojin Kabaiş'

Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, was found dead on the shores of Lake Van on October 15 after going missing on September 27. The investigation into Kabaiş's death is being deepened. In a statement made via social media, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç expressed that the investigation is continuing in a multi-faceted manner and that all evidence is being meticulously examined.

DNA FINDINGS AND INVESTIGATION DETAILS

In the Forensic Medicine Institute report prepared as part of the investigation, DNA samples belonging to two different men were detected on Rojin Kabaiş's body. These findings raised the possibility of sexual assault. Lawyer Zeynep Demir from the Van Bar Association Women's Rights Center stated that the DNA samples were found in the chest and vaginal area of Rojin.

Minister of Justice Tunç announced that camera footage, phone examinations, and witness statements are being evaluated in detail during the investigation process, and that technical work, which includes international experts, is ongoing to unlock Rojin's phone. Tunç emphasized that all evidence is being examined in depth to clarify the incident and that the process is being carried out meticulously under the coordination of judicial authorities.

Tunç's post is as follows:

'The judicial investigation conducted by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the loss of our child, university student Rojin Kabaiş, who went missing in our province of Van on September 27, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found on the shores of Lake Van on October 15, 2024, is continuing in a multi-faceted manner.

The report prepared as a result of the comprehensive examination conducted by the Presidency of the Forensic Medicine Institute, with the aim of clarifying this tragic incident that has deeply saddened us all, has been entered into the investigation file.

In addition to this report, which was prepared as a result of autopsy, biological, toxicological, and histopathological analyses, an additional expert opinion on the matter has been requested from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute.

During the investigation process, camera footage, phone examinations, HTS records, and witness statements have also been evaluated in detail, and technical work, including the involvement of experts from abroad, and examinations of some digital materials are continuing in order to unlock the phone used by our child.

Within the scope of the investigation, all evidence and reports are being examined in depth without ignoring any detail, and the entire process is being carried out meticulously under the coordination of judicial authorities.

May our nation, especially the grieving family of our child Rojin, be at ease; an intense effort is being made to ensure that the material truth is revealed without leaving a single point in the investigation in the dark.

I once again wish for God's mercy upon our child Rojin and patience for her family and loved ones.'
