Statement from YÖK regarding international students!

The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has issued a statement regarding the allegations that have come to the agenda concerning international students studying in Turkey.

In the statement made by YÖK, it was noted that Turkey, which has entered the top 10 countries most preferred by international students globally due to many positive qualities such as education quality, safe life, and a tradition of multicultural living, has become a global education hub in higher education.

The statement conveyed that international student candidates around the world are subject to registration and admission procedures according to the laws of the countries they apply to, and it was reported that in Turkey, international student candidates also obtain student status according to the principles and legislation to which higher education institutions are subject.

The following was noted in the statement:

"In this context, the application and registration-admission processes of international students do not cause any loss of rights for our Turkish citizen students. Approximately 95 percent of international students in Turkey continue their education with their own means and return to their home countries as voluntary ambassadors of our country.

It should not be forgotten that avoiding all kinds of baseless words, actions, and posts that would prevent our universities from becoming a center of attraction for international student and scientist mobility is a serious responsibility for all of us."
