Statement on Ayşe Barım from IYI Party's Türkkan: She slept on the floor, insects bit her neck

Talent manager Ayşe Barım, who has been imprisoned for 213 days as part of the Gezi Park trial, wrote a letter from prison. Drawing attention to her health problems, Barım said, "I have fainted 6 times and lost 30 kilos. If I die in prison while I could be tried without arrest, who will be responsible?"

In her letter, Barım denied the accusations against her and argued that she was the target of an organized smear campaign on social media:

"I am Ayşe Barım... This letter is not a cry for help, but a cry of conscience. I have been a talent manager for 23 years. I have committed no crime. Despite having no connection to the Gezi Park investigation, which was concluded years ago, I was linked to it through allegations made on social media. I am innocent."

Recalling that she was released under judicial control during the initial court process but was re-arrested upon the prosecutor's objection, Barım stated, "I am deprived of my freedom and my right to a healthy life."

Adding official reports regarding her health to her letter, Barım described the problems she faced in prison conditions as follows:

"I have 6 separate heart conditions. In addition to 2 stented aneurysms in my brain, a new, untreated aneurysm has formed. I am struggling to survive under the risk of sudden death. In the last 3 months, I have fainted 6 times due to my heart condition. Furthermore, I am experiencing severe muscle wasting along with rapid weight loss."

Barım stated that reports from both the Başakşehir Çam and Sakura Hospital and the Turkish Medical Association's Scientific Committee clearly reveal the risk of death. She emphasized that experts have pointed out that even in advanced centers, treatment and examinations carry high risks, and that her right to be treated by physicians of her choosing must be granted urgently.

"I WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT LOSING MY FAITH IN MY STATE AND JUSTICE"

Ayşe Barım concluded her letter with these words:

"My only wish is for my right to life to be protected. If I lose my life in prison when I could be tried without arrest, who is responsible for this? I demand that the life taken from me by unjust slanders be returned. I want justice to be served as soon as possible. I want to live without losing my faith in my state and justice."

While the letter written by Ayşe Barım in prison remains on the agenda, IYI Party member Lütfü Türkkan made striking statements about Barım's situation in prison during a program he attended.

"I crossed paths with Ayşe Barım in prison.

Her bed is on the top bunk but there is no power outlet, the fan is on the bottom floor, and she cannot move it. Because she couldn't breathe, she slept on the floor on the bottom level; she showed me her neck, insects had bitten her.

What was done in Mamak on September 12 is being done in Silivri."
