As a result of the lawsuit filed by the Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen, a stay of execution decision was issued for the IMM's tender for 2,500 new taxi plates.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) was preparing to hold a tender today for 150 taxi plates in the first phase of its plan to introduce 2,500 new taxi plates to expand taxi services in Istanbul. However, a stay of execution decision was issued as a result of the lawsuit filed by the Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen.
The Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers and Automobile Tradesmen had applied to the court for the cancellation of the tender process and a stay of execution.
STAY OF EXECUTION DECISION ISSUED
In the court's decision, it was emphasized that under the Municipal Law No. 5393 and the State Tender Law No. 2886, municipalities can lease taxi plates for a maximum period of 10 years, and that the IMM's plan to hold a tender for a 29-year period was contrary to the law. Considering that existing taxi plates have indefinite usage rights, this decision has once again highlighted the contradiction in practice.
