Stern warning from Minister Işıkhan to CHP municipalities: We will proceed to collect through legal means
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that the debts of CHP-run municipalities to the Social Security Institution (SGK) have risen from 96 billion liras to 120 billion liras in the 2 months following the elections. Stating that the debt of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has increased 885-fold in 5 years, Işıkhan emphasized that these debts will be collected through legal channels.
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, speaking at the AK Party İzmir Provincial Advisory Council Meeting, stated that the debts of CHP-run municipalities to the Social Security Institution (SGK) have increased significantly since the elections.
Minister Işıkhan noted that the municipalities' 96 billion lira SGK debt rose to 120 billion liras in the 2 months following the election, saying, "No one should take offense, but as the SGK, we will proceed to collect our debts through legal means as soon as possible. We cannot put the future of our children and our retirees at risk."
Minister Işıkhan said the following regarding the premium debts of municipalities to the SGK:
"The 96 billion lira SGK debt of the municipalities rose to 120 billion in the 2 months after the election. Almost all of these municipalities are CHP-run municipalities. Do you know what the state of the SGK debt of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which is called the stronghold of the CHP, has become? It has increased 885-fold in 5 years.
'İZMİR HAS BECOME THE MOST INDEBTED MUNICIPALITY TO THE SGK'
Now they say, 'We took over indebted municipalities from the AK Party.' I would like to ask you. Did they take over this 885-fold increased debt from the AK Party? Did İzmir pass to the CHP from the AK Party? Moreover, in the last few months, its debt rose from 5.3 billion liras to 7.8 billion liras, making it the most indebted municipality to the SGK. If you are wondering what CHP municipalism is like, look at İzmir. The CHP-run districts of İzmir are following in the footsteps of the metropolitan municipality. Their debts are increasing rapidly. Let me make my final warning to them from here. Municipalities must get out of this debt spiral."
'WE WILL PROCEED TO COLLECT THROUGH LEGAL MEANS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE'
Minister Işıkhan stated that the Istanbul and Ankara Metropolitan Municipalities are in the same situation as İzmir, adding, "Most CHP-run municipalities are in this situation. And the debt, which rose from 96 billion to 120 billion liras in two months, will rise to 200 billion or 300 billion liras if it is not intervened. No one should take offense, but as the SGK, we will proceed to collect our debts through legal means as soon as possible. We cannot put the future of our children and our retirees at risk. As the SGK, we have to ensure the actuarial balance and the sustainability of the system," he said.
