Coffee chain branch targeted with stones during protest in Diyarbakır

Following the call by Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh for the world to take to the streets on August 3, before he was assassinated, a group gathered in Diyarbakır under the leadership of non-governmental organizations to protest the genocide in Gaza.

Thousands of people gathered on Fırat Boulevard in the Kayapınar district and marched to the front of a shopping mall on Yenihal Boulevard.

The group marched carrying Palestinian flags and photographs of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, chanting slogans against Israel and reciting takbirs.

Provincial Police Chief Fatih Kaya also arrived at the area, where heavy security measures had been taken.

Subsequently, some members of the group attacked a coffee chain branch with stones.

While no damage occurred to the business thanks to the security measures taken by the police, a Security Branch Manager from the Provincial Police Department addressed the crowd, saying, "What befits a Muslim here is to act with common sense. Please be sensible. Let us act in a way that befits Diyarbakır. We are the colleagues of the police officer who was martyred in Kastamonu yesterday. We are the police who save your children from drugs. The stones you are throwing are hitting us. Please calm down."

Following this, the crowd dispersed quietly.
