Stray animals law taken to the Constitutional Court: First statement from CHP's Gökhan Günaydın
The Republican People's Party (CHP) has filed a petition with the Constitutional Court (AYM) for the annulment of the stray animals law.
The law prepared by the AKP regarding the implementation of euthanasia (killing) for stray animals has entered into force.
The CHP has applied to the Constitutional Court (AYM) with a 182-page petition for the annulment of the law that paves the way for the killing of stray animals.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın stated after the application to the AYM, "We invite the AYM to annul the law with all its provisions."
Highlights from Günaydın's statements are as follows:
"WE HAVE SUBMITTED IT TO THE AYM"
"We have submitted our petition to the AYM today for the stay of execution and, in any case, the annulment of the law on stray animals. I would like to express that, as you know, a law can be taken to the AYM within a period of 60 days from its publication in the Official Gazette. The constitutional legislator has defined this period as sufficient time for any regulation to be properly subject to an AYM petition.
"WE WORKED INCLUDING WEEKENDS"
We had to see the sensitivity of the issue and the massacres of stray dogs that wounded the conscience of all of us, and we had to complete our preparations rapidly against this. In this framework, we received opinions from professional organizations, bar associations, associations, foundations, and volunteers related to animal rights. Our lawyers and deputies worked including weekends, and today we have submitted our 182-page petition to the AYM on the 13th day."
