Striking claim from barracks mates of 2 soldiers who died in İskenderun

Two out of 7 soldiers who were hospitalized with complaints of high fever and nausea at the Naval Recruit Training Regiment in İskenderun, Hatay, have died due to multi-organ failure linked to severe dehydration.

According to a report by Çağdaş Bayraktar from Cumhuriyet, the soldiers' barracks mates stated that they had been rehearsing for the oath-taking ceremony for days. Experts pointed to the inadequacy of the military health system.

Retired Air Force Medical Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Semih Dikkatli said, "It could be fluid loss caused by diarrhea due to food poisoning, or fluid loss resulting from training conducted in the Hatay heat. The incident points to a chain of deficiencies."

"REACHING THE STAGE OF MULTI-ORGAN FAILURE REVEALS NEGLIGENCE"

Dikkatli stated, "When temperatures are high, soldiers do not necessarily have to be in the sun for heatstroke to occur; this can happen during training in the shade under high-heat conditions." Pointing to the importance of the military health system, Dikkatli remarked, "The possibility of heatstroke among our soldiers seems more likely. Reaching the stage of multi-organ failure reveals negligence."

"OTHER SOLDIERS HAD SYMPTOMS TOO!"

The deceased soldiers' barracks mates said they had been rehearsing for the oath-taking ceremony throughout the day for days. Explaining that they had reported this situation to their families, the privates said, "The symptoms in other soldiers also appeared after this news. With this anxiety, some soldiers spent the night waiting at the infirmary."
