Striking comment from Ahmet Özer on the 'urban consensus' case: A bittersweet joy
CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, regarding the release of 7 people and the continued detention of 2 others in the 'urban consensus' case, stated: 'We are experiencing a bittersweet joy. The release of all our other friends being tried for the urban consensus as soon as possible will increase trust and belief in the peace process.'
In the case opened regarding the 'Turkey Alliance/Urban Consensus' alliance formed between the CHP and the DEM Party during the March 31 local elections, the court issued release orders for Kartal Deputy Mayor Cemalettin Yüksel, Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Livan Gür, as well as Üsküdar Municipal Council Member Bülent Kaygun, Fatih Municipal Council Member Güzin Alpaslan, Tuzla Municipal Council Member Hasan Özdemir, Adalar Municipal Council Member Nesimi Aday, and Şişli Municipal Council Member Sinan Gökçe. The detention of Sancaktepe Municipal Council Member Elif Gül and Beyoğlu Municipal Council Member Turabi Şen will continue.
Ahmet Özer, who was removed from office and arrested as part of the 'Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization' investigation and was released in recent weeks, shared a post on his social media account regarding the matter.
In his post, Özer stated the following:
“The urban consensus case is a case that contradicts the peace process. I learned that 7 release orders were issued and 2 detentions were continued. We are experiencing a bittersweet joy.
I convey my best wishes to our friends who were released; they have brought relief to our hearts. However, the release of all our other friends being tried for the urban consensus as soon as possible will increase trust and belief in the peace process.”
