Striking comment from Tanju Özcan on Minister Ersoy's statements: 'No one from the provincial administration is in custody'

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy answered questions regarding the hotel fire in Kartalkaya, Bolu, during a live broadcast he attended.

While debates continue over who is responsible for the fire, Minister Ersoy pointed to the provincial administration as the party responsible for the fire.

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who joined another television broadcast after the live stream, made a striking comment regarding Minister Ersoy pointing to the provincial administration.

Özcan said the following:

The Minister gathers all authority unto himself, yet despite this, he blames the fire department for the inspection issues.

Three people from our fire department are currently in custody; if you look at the statements made by the Minister, he is pointing to the provincial administration. If the provincial administration issued the license, why is there not a single person from the provincial administration in custody right now?

He is the one who should have imposed obligations on us through regulations; he already stated himself that it was outside our jurisdiction. He saw that he could not proceed through the municipality, admitted it was in the field of the provincial administration, and passed the buck there. Currently, three people from our fire department are in custody, but no one from the provincial administration is in custody!

He says 'we cannot conduct inspections' and tries to portray himself as innocent.

The hotel is required to have an occupational safety and inspection expert; the Minister does not touch upon this issue at all...

The Minister should be on trial right now and should be the number one defendant because of the laws he enacted...

I will file a criminal complaint against the Minister following the statements he made.

INSTRUCTION TO 'HOLD THE MUNICIPALITY RESPONSIBLE'

During the investigation process, the prosecutor's office gave instructions to the individuals who would prepare the expert report to 'hold the municipality responsible.'

When the expert said, 'we will not sign such a thing,' signatures are being collected to have the expert removed from duty.

They are insisting on signing their own reports, but the matter is being closed as a result of pressure from the prosecutor's office.
