Striking confessions from footballer Ayhan Akman on the Seçil Erzan case: 'I saved my money, but I should have warned others'
Former footballer Ayhan Akman, who managed to protect his money in the Seçil Erzan case, has broken his silence after a long time. Claiming that he did not demand interest and only took back the money he had lent, Akman defended himself by saying, "I acted only as someone protecting my own interests. If I had known the situation, perhaps I would have warned others as well."
Developments regarding the case in which former Denizbank branch manager Seçil Erzandefrauded footballers and businesspeople through imaginary funds promising high returns remain on the agenda.
Former footballer Ayhan Akman, who allegedly could not recover his money after participating in the "Fatih Terim Fund"established by Erzan, broke his silence and made statements to journalist Fatih Altaylı. Ayhan Akman stated that he recovered his money without demanding interest.
He has known Erzan for 10-12 years. Explaining that he knew her and that they worked together at the bank's Florya branch, Akman stated that Erzan called him in June 2022 and invited him to the branch. According to Akman, Erzan told him that a fund created by the bank abroad provided high returns and that this opportunity was offered only to elite clients. Akman noted that Erzan insistently emphasized that the fund was confidential and limited.
Explaining that Erzan withdrew money from him for the fund on behalf of a person whose name she did not disclose, Akman said, "I withdrew it from my account at Denizbank and handed it over to her."
"SHE RETURNED IT"
Stating that he requested an official receipt after the transaction, the former footballer said, "I called almost every day to ask where the document and receipt were. Finally, I said, 'If you cannot provide the receipt, I will go to the headquarters and ask for it myself,' and I stated that I would share this situation with senior management. Upon these words, she returned my money," he said.
Defending that he did not demand interest, Akman said, "I got back the amount I deposited; in fact, even my wife was angry with me at the time, saying, 'You wasted 6-7 months for nothing.' Now, we are grateful that we recovered the money." he stated.
"IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE HAS LOST THEIR MONEY"
""I had no knowledge of Arda or the other individuals. In fact, at that time, I thought I was the only fool. If I had known the situation, perhaps I would have warned other people," Akman said in his defense, adding, "However, what difference would a warning have made after those moments? Unfortunately, it seems everyone has lost their money." he stated.
