Striking detail about Mansur Yavaş: He supported 4 lieutenants dismissed from the TSK

While all eyes are on January 16 regarding the dismissal process of the lieutenants who chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" while crossing their swords at the Military Academy graduation ceremony, a striking detail about Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş has emerged.

It was learned that Yavaş hired 4 lieutenants who were dismissed from the TSK after arguing with another lieutenant for not wearing an Atatürk photograph during the November 10 ceremony at the Tuzla Infantry School last year.

Cumhuriyet columnist Barış Terkoğlu wrote that the process regarding the dismissal of seven lieutenants from the TSK—following a warning issued by four pro-Atatürk lieutenants to a lieutenant who did not wear an Atatürk photograph on his lapel and his two friends during the November 10 ceremony at the Tuzla Infantry School last year—has been taken to court.

Stating that the lieutenants dismissed from the TSK could not find work for a long time, Terkoğlu wrote that Mansur Yavaş gave the 4 lieutenants jobs in municipal subsidiaries.

Terkoğlu included the following statements in his article:

"The lawyer for the lieutenants I spoke with explained that their lawsuits for reinstatement to the TSK are ongoing, that the lieutenants' greatest dream is to regain their uniforms, and that they have hearings at the end of this month. On the other hand, he said he also fears that someone from the government might intervene and pressure the municipality, saying 'Do not employ them.' I do not know if they would dare to go that far, but it is clear that this would draw public backlash."
