Striking detail in the attack on the deputy dean in Konya: A warning had been issued

The incident occurred yesterday around noon at the Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences. According to the information obtained, Bestami Serdar E. graduated from the Social Work Department of the Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences last year.

Upon graduation, Bestami Serdar E. took the university entrance exam again and chose the Health Management Department at the same faculty. The suspect was then admitted to the Health Management Department of the same faculty.

HE HAD BEEN WARNED BY THE DEAN'S OFFICE

It was learned that Bestami Serdar E., who continued his studies and was known as an introverted person, had been suffering from psychological problems since his previous school term, had had arguments with his professors and the dean, and had been issued a warning by the dean's office.

Bestami Serdar E. came to the faculty, stated that he wanted to speak with the dean, and went to the floor where his office is located.

The dean was also informed about the suspect's arrival. During this time, shouting was heard, and Faculty of Health Sciences Deputy Dean Dr. Müjdat Yeşildal, hearing the noise, came out of his office to intervene in the situation.

Yeşildal, who wanted to call student Bestami Serdar E. into his office to calm him down, was subjected to an armed attack by the student. While Deputy Dean Yeşildal was seriously injured after being shot with a handgun, Bestami Serdar E. attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head.

The deputy dean and the suspect student were taken to the Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital within the same campus for treatment.

It was learned that Deputy Dean Yeşildal, who was immediately taken into surgery and is continuing to receive treatment, is in improving condition, while the suspect student, who allegedly came to the faculty with two handguns, has been placed on life support.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
