Striking details in IPA report: Nearly half of Istanbul residents are barely making ends meet

The Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), has published the results of its August 2024 research.

In the report published by the IPA, 29.4% of Istanbul residents stated that they could not make certain payments and had fallen into debt, while 43.8% said they were barely making ends meet.

The stress level of Istanbul residents was measured at 7, and the happiness level at 5.4. Of the participants, 58.4% said that economic problems were on the country's agenda, 20.4% cited Israel's occupation of Gaza, and 8.8% mentioned the fires in Turkey.

Economic problems were also the main topic of conversation in Istanbul households. 56% of participants stated that economic problems were discussed at home, 6.1% mentioned education expenses, and 5.5% cited Israel's occupation of Gaza. In August, 29.4% of participants indicated they could not make certain payments and had fallen into debt, 9.2% said they were not really making ends meet, 43.8% said they were barely making ends meet, and 17.7% stated they were able to make ends meet and even save some money. The stress level of Istanbul residents was measured at 7, and the happiness level at 5.4.
