Striking Erdoğan-CHP claim from Fatih Altaylı! ‘Once again…’

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who emerged victorious from the March 31 Local Elections, met with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting, which drew all eyes in the political agenda, took place at the AKP Headquarters. The summit between the two leaders lasted 1.5 hours.

It was reported that the historic meeting covered topics such as new constitutional efforts, election results, the judicial crisis, retirees, human rights violations, and the economy. Following the meeting, Erdoğan stated that a 'period of softening' has begun in politics.

"ERDOĞAN WANTS TO REACH INTO THE CHP ONCE AGAIN"

While the repercussions of the Erdoğan-Özel meeting continue, journalist Fatih Altaylı described the criticisms directed at the two leaders' meeting as 'stupidity'.

Evaluating the potential political consequences of the meeting, Fatih Altaylı used the following expressions in the section titled "Erdoğan wants to reach into the CHP once again" in an article published on his own website;

"It is clear what Erdoğan wants to do. And he knows that he cannot defeat İmamoğlu himself, and that he can only win if he neutralizes İmamoğlu in his own home, the CHP, just like last time. That is why Erdoğan is reaching his arm, which does not struggle to reach anywhere, into the CHP.

Last term, he blocked İmamoğlu through Kılıçdaroğlu and the men around Kılıçdaroğlu.

This time, he might neutralize İmamoğlu by flattering Özgür Özel, making him popular, stroking his ego, and puffing him up. This is the plan we see very clearly right now. However, I do not think it will work at all. First of all, Özgür Özel is not a Kılıçdaroğlu. He did not come from the bureaucracy; he came from civil society by working his way up. He will not fall for these cheap schemes. Furthermore, if the AKP continues to govern Turkey like this, it will not matter who the candidate is in the next election. Erdoğan is a politician good enough to know that governments are toppled not by the strength of the opposition, but by the weaknesses of the ruling power. Even if it seems quite doubtful that he is still that way!"
