Striking message from Mansur Yavaş at Republic Day celebrations

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated at the October 29 Republic Day celebrations: "If we can stand tall today in this geography surrounded by a ring of fire, exactly 100 years later, we owe it to our ancestors, led by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who refused captivity 100 years ago and fought by risking martyrdom."

Striking message from Mansur Yavaş at Republic Day celebrations

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic and the October 29 Republic Day, the ABB organized a celebration program at the Atatürk Forest Farm.

ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş spoke at the events where artists Candan Erçetin and Murda were set to perform. Yavaş said the following:

In Ankara, the Republic is being celebrated not only in this square, but on the streets, avenues, and in the parks. Our city, which we have decorated with our glorious Turkish flag and photographs of Atatürk, has been waiting for this day for weeks, just as it did 100 years ago. Our longing has come to an end. We are making our voices heard from here: The Republic of Turkey will remain forever.

"IF WE CAN STAND TALL..."

Look. Civilians are being killed in Gaza, children are being massacred. A humanitarian tragedy is unfolding. Palestinians are now experiencing the same difficulties we faced 100 years ago.

Exactly 100 years ago, the will that made our lands a homeland prevented the massacre that innocent Palestinians are experiencing today from happening in our own country.

If we can stand tall today in this geography surrounded by a ring of fire, exactly 100 years later, we owe it to our ancestors, led by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who refused captivity 100 years ago and fought by risking martyrdom.

The Republic of Turkey will hopefully remain forever, both for its own children and for all the lonely, victimized, and oppressed people in the world.

"FATHER, REST ASSURED"

There are those who say Ankara's color is gray. No, they are mistaken. Ankara's color is red and white. The color of our Ankara is the color of our flag. The greatest proof of this is this enthusiastic crowd. Father, rest assured. We are protecting your legacy and your light. We are working on the path you have shown.

We are opening new roads, green spaces, infrastructure projects, technology centers, and family and women's centers. We are seeking wisdom from the youth for the future of our country. Hopefully, we will all together make Ankara a city worthy of the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a city that competes with world capitals.

Next year, we will celebrate our 101st anniversary all together again in this area, at the Atatürk Forest Farm, which is Atatürk's legacy to us. I commemorate with mercy, gratitude, and appreciation our dear martyrs who have made our lands a homeland for 100 years, especially the founder of our Republic, the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms.

How fortunate that we have our homeland and our flag. Long live freedom. Long live the Republic. How happy is the one who says I am a Turk. Happy 100th anniversary. Here is to many more 100 years. The Republic forever.

The October 29 Republic Day events continued with concerts by Murda and Candan Erçetin.
