Striking words from the wife of the motorcycle courier killed by the Somali president's son: Until the footage emerged, the police told us my husband had committed suicide!

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the son of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, struck motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer from behind with his car at the Aksaray exit of the Eurasia Tunnel on November 30. Göçer, who was seriously injured in the accident, lost his 6-day battle for life at the hospital where he was being treated.

Mohamud, who struck Göçer and fled the scene after the accident, was released after giving his statement at the police station, allegedly because the police report "showed the motorcycle courier to be at fault." However, in the expert report prepared regarding the incident, the Somali president's son, Mohamud, was found to be "primarily at fault." Although the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant for Mohamud, it was revealed that the suspect had fled abroad on December 2.

Öznur Göçer, the wife of the motorcycle courier who was left alone with their two children, one of whom has autism, told Cumhuriyet, "The authorities say that the necessary actions will be taken, but I cannot be convinced by these statements." Stating that after the accident, authorities questioned whether her husband, Göçer, was an amateur, Öznur Göçer explained, "Until the footage emerged, the police told us my husband had committed suicide. If my husband's fellow motorcycle couriers and the public had not applied pressure, they might have just said he committed suicide and closed the case."
