Students in Antalya react to October 29 poster: Suspended from school
Following the directive from AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to hang his own poster in schools during October 29 celebrations, students at Hacı Malike Mehmet Bileydi Anatolian High School in Antalya reacted to the situation.
A circular sent by the Ministry of National Education regarding flags, and posters of Atatürk and the President in all schools starting from October 29 has caused a crisis.
The circular stated that a poster of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk should be hung to the right of the Turkish flag, and a poster of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the left. It was also emphasized that both posters must be of the same size.
It is alleged that students used a window to hide the Erdoğan poster hung on the school building. The incident quickly drew attention in the school vicinity and on social media.
A student who allegedly removed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s October 29 poster has been given a suspension.
It was stated that the school principal, Gökmen Güler, referred the student who removed the poster to the disciplinary board and that the student was given a suspension.
