Successive resignations in Eric Adams case in the US: Crisis in the Democratic Party

New York Mayor Eric Adams appeared in court in the case filed against him over allegations of receiving illegal donations and bribes from Turkey. While the US Department of Justice requested the dismissal of the charges, the court process has increased political tension in the country.

US Department of Justice officials requested the closure of the case, claiming that Adams was obstructing President Donald Trump's immigration policies. However, Judge Dale Ho, who is presiding over the case, stated that the matter requires a detailed review and postponed his decision.

Making his defense in the courtroom, Eric Adams denied the accusations, saying, "I have not committed a crime, and I do not think this case will be brought back."

Supporters of Adams and opposing groups faced off in front of the courthouse. Police took intensive security measures to control the tension that erupted among the protesters.

RESIGNATIONS FOLLOW ONE ANOTHER

The Trump administration's intervention in the case has caused a wave of resignations in both the judiciary and the municipal administration. Eight federal prosecutors, including the acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, resigned from their posts, claiming they were subjected to political pressure.

There was also turmoil at New York City Hall. Four of Adams' top aides resigned due to the ongoing legal process.

CRISIS IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that they are evaluating the possibility of removing Adams from office. As calls for Adams to resign within the Democratic Party increase, allegations that he is cooperating with the Trump administration on immigration policies have further fueled internal party debates.
