Sude Naz, who was beaten in the middle of the street in Manisa, speaks out: 'I will terminate the pregnancy'

Sude Naz A., 5.5 weeks pregnant, who was beaten in the middle of the street by her partner Yılmaz Akman in front of her 3-year-old child in Manisa, has announced that she will terminate her pregnancy.

According to the report by DHA, the incident occurred on August 15 on Şehit Teğmen Tahir Ün Street in the Paşa neighborhood of the Akhisar district. Yılmaz Akman suddenly began beating 5.5-week-pregnant Sude Naz A., with whom he lived in a religious marriage, in the middle of the street after failing to convince her to go to the village. Akman knocked Sude Naz A. to the ground with punches. Continuing to punch the young woman's head while she was on the ground, Akman then struck her with a metal brush handle he grabbed. While the couple's 3-year-old son witnessed these moments, bystanders watched the violence for a long time without reacting.

POLICE RESCUED THE ATTACKER FROM THE CROWD

A young man approached to intervene with Yılmaz Akman, but Akman shouted, 'Leave it, damn it.' Meanwhile, as Sude Naz A. screamed, 'Brother, I am pregnant, help me,' bystanders watched the events for a while. Later, a passerby tried to stop Akman. Local shopkeepers supported this person and rescued the young woman. Afterward, the crowd began to beat Akman. Police teams dispatched to the area upon notification rescued Akman from the crowd, and those moments were recorded by a citizen on a mobile phone.

3 STITCHES IN HER HEAD, HER CONDITION IS GOOD

While Yılmaz Akman was taken into custody, Sude Naz A. was taken to the hospital. Akman, who was referred to the courthouse a day later following his procedures at the Akhisar District Police Department, was arrested by the court. The young woman, who received 3 stitches in her head at the hospital and whose condition was reported to be good, was discharged after her treatment.

In a written statement issued by the Manisa Governor's Office, it was announced that Sude Naz A. has been placed under protection.

It turned out that Yılmaz Akman, whom Sude Naz filed a complaint against, has a lengthy criminal record. Akman, who is stated to have 18 criminal files and was required to sign in for judicial control 3 days a week, said in his police statement: "Sude Naz is my partner in a religious marriage. She wanted to leave me, and we have been separated for a long time. That day, I went with my brother by car and tried to convince her to go to the village. She accepted at first and got into the car. Later, when she got out of the car and started shouting, 'Save me,' I got angry and punched her. I took a stick from someone's hand and continued to beat her. I do not deny my crime and I accept it."

'HE COMMITTED VIOLENCE MANY TIMES, I TURNED A BLIND EYE BECAUSE WE HAVE A CHILD'

Sude Naz A. described what happened on the day of the incident as follows:

"I never saw my mother. My aunt raised me. I also lost my father 3 years ago. That is why I believed and trusted Yılmaz at a young age. He had subjected me to violence many times before, but I turned a blind eye every time because we have a child. He was using a lot of alcohol and other substances. He had promised me he wouldn't use them. When he didn't keep his word, I left him."

'IF MY CHILD HAD NOT RUN TO HIS FATHER, HE MIGHT NOT HAVE SEEN US'

Three days before the incident, I blocked him on my phone and everywhere else. He wanted to come to the house. I didn't let him in. On the day of the incident, I went out to the market to buy clothes for my son and personal hygiene products for myself. I was walking with bags in my hands. It turns out Yılmaz had been following me. As soon as my son saw him, he shouted 'Daddy' and ran toward him. I followed him so that a car wouldn't hit my child. If my child hadn't run to his father, he might not have seen us. At that moment, Yılmaz came up to me and tried to take me to the village. When I didn't want to go, he started punching me."

'EVERYONE WATCHED ME GET BEATEN FOR A LONG TIME'

I fell to the ground, and the bags in my hands flew everywhere. While I was being beaten, I asked for help, saying 'Brother, I'm pregnant, help me,' but no one helped. Everyone watched me get beaten for a long time. More than the beating I received, I was saddened by the fact that it happened in front of my child and what he experienced at that moment. I got pregnant at 16. I didn't want a legal marriage because I wanted to receive my father's pension. I was afraid that because Yılmaz didn't work, he wouldn't be able to take care of my child and we wouldn't be able to make ends meet. I am 5.5 weeks pregnant, and I will terminate the pregnancy." 

Stating that she wants Yılmaz Akman, with whom she lived in a common-law marriage, to receive the harshest punishment and never be released from prison for what he put her through, Sude Naz A. said, "I am very afraid that he will get out of prison and do something to us."
