Sudenaz, who was beaten in the street, speaks out: 'I screamed for help, but no one helped me'
Footage of a man named Yılmaz Akman subjecting his partner, Sudenaz A., to violence in the middle of the street in Manisa has caused public outrage on social media. The perpetrator, Akman, has been arrested. Sudenaz, who stated that she has been subjected to violence since she was 14, expressed her reaction to the fact that no one helped her during the incident.
In the Akhisar district of Manisa, 19-year-old Sudenaz A. was beaten mercilessly with an iron rod by Yılmaz Akman (37), a man with whom she had been in a religious marriage since she was 14, in front of their 3-year-old child. Following the footage that caused outrage on social media and the subsequent reactions, the police took action, and Akman was detained and arrested.
'THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS BEATEN ME'
Sudenaz, who has been subjected to violence since she was 14, spoke to Tuğba Özer from Gerçek Gündem. Sudenaz stated that Yılmaz Akman had beaten her mercilessly many times.
Stating that the incident of violence occurred 5 days ago, the young woman said, “This is not the first time he has beaten me; I have returned from the brink of death many times. This time, it drew attention because it was caught on camera. I wish I had died there, but that my child had not seen these things. Who will make my child forget these images? Not a single person even took my child away from there,” she said.
'HIS VIOLENCE TOWARD ME INCREASED EVEN MORE AFTER MY FATHER PASSED AWAY'
The young woman, who said she had been with the attacker Yılmaz Akman since she was 14, said, “He hit me for the first time when I was 14, and I had a gash on my head. Later, the violence continued. We broke up, but I got back together with him when I became pregnant. His family had actually warned me from the beginning. I never saw my mother. I don't know anything about her. My aunt and grandmother raised me. Because I grew up without a mother, I clung to him. He was like my source of life. I was a child, and I forgave him every time. After my father passed away 3 years ago, his violence toward me increased even more,” she said.
Sudenaz A. described the day of the incident as follows:
“He had been using a lot of alcohol lately. We had broken up a few days ago, and I had blocked him everywhere. On the day the incident happened, I had gone to the bazaar to buy clothes for my son. The bag in my hand already contained the child's clothes, shampoo, etc. I wanted to walk around a bit and do some shopping with my child that afternoon. That day, he called me from a different number and wanted to meet in the park. I went for the sake of the child. Then he started attacking me while swearing.”
'I SCREAMED FOR HELP, BUT NO ONE HELPED ME'
“I screamed ‘Help,’ but no one helped me. My child was by my side; even if they didn't intervene while I was going through that, why didn't they take my child away from there? I don't care about my own life, but they could have at least pulled my child away. So many people sat and watched. Some even laughed. A lot of blood gushed from my head. I could have died from a brain hemorrhage.
I am pregnant, and I also had bleeding. My head is swollen, and I have 3 staples in it right now. That moment is indescribable for me. I have many scars on my face from his beatings. He split my eyebrow, he broke my nose. I tried to protect my face next to the child so that I wouldn't get new blows to my face. Because of the violence he inflicted throughout our relationship, he left so many marks on my face that I have stitches and scar marks all over my body. I am surviving right now with the support of my grandmother.”
The young woman, who expressed, “I am afraid that he will get out of prison and do something to us and my children,” continued as follows:
'THEY SAID, "YOU COULDN'T PROTECT YOURSELF, HOW WILL YOU PROTECT THE CHILD?"'
“I have complained about him many times before. My complaints were not taken very seriously. He went in and out of prison, but he was released again. He was subjected to signature control, but he continued to beat me. We were constantly breaking up, but I had to get back together every time because there was a child involved. He deceived me every time.
After the incident, people from the Social Services Directorate came to the house to check on my child and asked me, ‘You couldn't protect yourself there, how will you protect the child?’ But then they decided that I could take care of him and left. My child needs me right now.”
'HUMANITY IS DEAD'
Sudenaz A. concluded her words as follows:
“Humanity is dead. While the people there were watching, my little child was trying to separate us. They couldn't even be as human as he was. Those rods could have hit my child too. My child's psychology has been damaged. I don't want him to be affected any further. That's why I'm trying to get the videos removed from the internet. I don't want anything else to be shared about my child.”
