Suicide attempt on the TEM Highway

In the incident that took place on the TEM Highway in the Seyrantepe area of Sarıyer on September 25, 2023, 19-year-old Zelal A. had attempted suicide on an overpass. Upon notification, police teams arriving at the scene closed the side road of the highway to traffic, while fire department crews set up an air mattress. Zelal, who could not be persuaded during the approximately 1-hour effort, threw herself down.

Zelal, who landed on the air mattress, was rescued with minor injuries and taken to the hospital by ambulance. 

FORCED TO COMMIT SUICIDE BY HER FAMILY DUE TO SEXUAL ABUSE

Following the incident, the statements made by Zelal A. after her treatment was completed and she was taken to the police station revealed the tragedy behind the suicide attempt. In her statement, Zelal said that she was pressured by her family to "commit suicide" because she had been sexually abused by her brothers in 2021. It was learned that Zelal, who has 6 criminal records, had checked into a hospital's psychiatry department and was prescribed medication and recommended for inpatient treatment, but left the hospital without their knowledge.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE THREE TIMES

In the General Information Gathering (GBT) check of Zelal A., it was found that she had given statements in 2021 and 2022 alleging sexual abuse and had attempted suicide 3 times. It was also learned that she had filed a complaint with the police last June, alleging that she was being held against her will by her family. It was learned that Zelal A., whose statement was taken at the police station following her latest suicide attempt, was released upon the instruction of the prosecutor's office after judicial procedures.
