Süleyman Soylu did a favor for an MHP mayor on his way out! Despite complaints sent to CİMER...

A new name has been added to the list of individuals for whom former Interior Minister and AKP Istanbul MP Süleyman Soylu did not grant investigation permission during his tenure as minister.

It has been claimed that despite numerous complaints against Abdullah Çatal, the MHP member who served as mayor of the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu between 2019 and 2024, Soylu did not grant permission for an investigation.

According to a report by Birgün, countless complaints were filed with CİMER against the MHP's Çatal during his time in office.

The complaints against Çatal included the following:

• Yunus S., who served as the Director of Financial Services, caused a reduction in real estate, environmental cleaning, advertisement, water revenue, solid waste, wastewater, and other municipal revenues for himself, his father, his spouse, and his relatives, thereby committing the crime of tax evasion and causing public loss.

• Personnel who were previously working in the fire department were brought into the accounting unit and paid excessive wages.

• Employees working in the accounting department signed documents in place of the accounting officer despite not having an accounting officer certificate.

• Trees inside a park located in a protected site were cut down, and the creation of an enclosed area was overlooked.

• Pressure was exerted on civil servants and workers within the municipality; 15 personnel were dismissed unlawfully and without any basis, and those dismissed were not paid severance compensation.

• The duty stations of 60-70 personnel within the municipality were changed. They were forced to work in jobs that did not match their duties and titles, and were assigned to garbage collection.

SOYLU DID NOT GRANT INVESTIGATION PERMISSION

The then-Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu decided shortly before handing over his post to Ali Yerlikaya that there was no need to take action against MHP's Abdullah Çatal and other municipal personnel.

Soylu had also previously refused to grant investigation permission regarding former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek, Esenler Mayor Tevfik Göksu, Turgutlu Mayor Çetin Akın, and former Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Türkmen.
