Support for KRT resistance from ATGB: 'It is a matter of journalistic honor'

Support for the work stoppage initiated by KRT TV employees against the salary and meal card crisis has also come from abroad. The Association of European Turkish Journalists (ATGB) has embraced the employees' resistance and called on the channel's management to act with 'responsibility'.

Journalists, reporters, technical staff, and editing personnel working at KRT television halted the broadcast flow on June 4 due to unpaid salaries since March 28 and the blocking of their meal cards, switching to pre-recorded broadcasts. Since that day, the employees have been keeping watch in front of the channel building.

SUPPORT ALSO COMES FROM ABROAD

The ATGB, where Turkish media workers in Europe are organized, described the situation in a statement as "labor exploitation." The statement included the following: "We announce that we stand with the KRT workers. This is not only a struggle for wages but also a struggle for press freedom and journalistic honor. We call on everyone with a conscience to hear this voice."

ATGB President Recai Aksu, reminding that journalists perform a public duty, said, "It is not possible for broadcasting to continue under these conditions. Journalism cannot be silenced; labor must be compensated."

SUPPORT IS GROWING

While DİSK Basın-İş and the Communication Workers Solidarity Network are supporting the KRT employees' action, numerous journalists have also published messages of solidarity on social media.

KRT management, in a statement, announced that they are working on an "urgent solution plan" regarding the payments. However, the employees remain determined to continue their resistance, stating, "We will not return to broadcasting until concrete steps are taken."
