Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has harshly criticized Israel's decision to declare UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres 'persona non grata' and ban him from entering the country. In his statement to La Sexta television, Albares said, "UN Secretary-General Guterres is a good friend. He is a friend of Spain and, above all, a friend of peace. We completely reject these slanders and this ban, and of course, we support the UN Secretary-General."
In a written statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was announced that Guterres, who has been calling for an urgent de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, had been declared "persona non grata" and banned from entering Israel.
