Support message for the NEW Party from Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez: New and promising
Spanish Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International Pedro Sanchez has shared a message of congratulations and support for the NEW Party.
With the emergence of the NEW Party, led by Chairman Özgür Özel, on the political scene, messages of congratulations have begun to arrive one after another.
A message of support for Özel's New Party also came from Spanish Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International Pedro Sanchez.
In his message, Sanchez included the following statements:
“Dear Özgür,
As the Socialist International, we have closely followed your struggle for democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law with active solidarity at every step.
You have had to face great difficulties, including the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the detention of many other mayors elected by your party, and finally the “absolute nullity” that invalidated all the democratic decisions of previous Congresses.
You have faced all these difficult moments with courage and have always prioritized collective interests over personal interests.
We understand how difficult it is to make the decision to continue the struggle through the establishment of the New Party, which was demanded not only by your legitimately elected representatives but also by the grassroots. As a strong leader, you felt that the time had come to make a breakthrough because fundamental principles were being violated.
Undoubtedly, this courageous decision gives hope to and mobilizes all people who fight for our common values.
As an organization, we will continue to work closely with you in this new, promising endeavor, as we have previously decided.
We wish the New Party great success.”
